Commerce Development
El Tránsito is known for fishing, but it has so much more to offer. It has great beaches for tourism, a great fishing industry, and an abundance of farm land near by.
Currently, NICA is researching ways to unite tourism, the fishing industry and farming so that the three industries can work in harmony, giving the most people opportunities for employment. We have been considering different ways to clean up the beaches so that surfers will frequent the beaches and restaurants. Also, since the fishing industry has been suffering lately, we have been researching ways to combine fishing and farming to increase profitability for both.
In January of 2007, NICA received a donation of 200 White sewing machines. The sewing machines have made it to El Tránsito, and they are being stored until a proper headquarters can be located and set up. NICA plans on starting a co-op for the women of El Tránsito. We will pay a fair wage for the production of simple kitchen accessories, and after the sale of the products, the women will be in charge of how the profits are spent in the town.
